Wabasha, MN – The National Eagle Center is preparing to celebrate a very special Bald Eagle Day this June. 2026 marks the 250th Anniversary of the United States, and on Saturday, June 20, the public is invited to Wabasha to celebrate this milestone with our iconic National Bird and living National Symbol – the Bald Eagle.

Bald Eagle Day is an annual commemoration and celebration of the Bald Eagle’s removal from the Endangered Species List in 2007. This year will see a special event as they celebrate our National Bird and Symbol, the Bald Eagle, along with this important national milestone.

“There is no doubt that this year’s Bald Eagle Day celebration is extra special,” said Ed Hahn, Director of Advancement and Marketing Communications at the Center. “We’re celebrating the 250th birthday of our nation and the remarkable recovery of our National Bird from the brink of extinction at the same time. Those are definitely worthy of celebration!”

The festivities will kick-off with a flag-raising ceremony conducted by Wabasha’s American Legion Post #50 and VFW Post #4068, followed immediately by short comments from invited dignitaries in the Riverfront Amphitheater. Live eagle programs at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. in the Riverfront Amphitheater will be free and open to the public.

Special programming and events will include traditional Native American dancing by Native Pride Productions at 12:30 p.m. in the amphitheater, Behind the Scenes experiences at 11:30 a.m. and 2:15 p.m. (registration required), the new Symbols & Celebrations: 250 Years of Freedom exhibition in the American Eagle Gallery, all-day chainsaw carving with raffle to win a carved Bald Eagle statue, minnow racing, exhibits from Oxbow Park & Zollman Zoo, rose-themed kids crafts with artist Teaki Garcia, lawn games, free Dilly Bars from Dairy Queen and walking tacos from the Wabasha Lion’s Club.

“The Bald Eagle is iconic in American culture and here at the National Eagle Center we look forward to sharing and celebrating these majestic birds every day with our guests, but especially on Bald Eagle Day”, said Ed Hahn, Director of Advancement and Marketing Communications at the Center. “There will be a special feeling to the celebration this year and we warmly invite the public to come to Wabasha and  join us for some free programs and other fun activities.”
