Wabasha, MN – It’s never too early to plan an adventure, and the National Eagle Center is ready for another exciting season of Bald Eagle and Golden Eagle viewing and waterfowl migration field trips in the Driftless Area. Beginning on Saturday, October 17 with a Tundra Swan and waterfowl outings focused on fall migration, the 2026/2027 field trip season will include a total of 13 field trips, including five Bald Eagle focused excursions, six Golden Eagle outings, and two swan and fall migration trips.
“Winter is a special time of the year for eagles in Minnesota and Wisconsin and introducing people to the wonders of it is always fun,” said Scott Mehus, Director of Education at the Center.”
National Eagle Center field trips are small group, personalized safari-style experiences led by an expert naturalist. Traveling aboard the Center’s Eagle Shuttle, attendees travel to pre-scouted locations and receive a classroom-style educational program from an expert guide. These three-hour excursions are perfect for people ages 8 and up, including active seniors and individuals with mobility issues. The shuttle comfortably seats eight passengers, features large windows for wildlife viewing, and can accommodate up to two wheelchairs and additional spotting scopes and photography gear. Additionally, the smaller bus allows field trips groups to explore some locations off-limits to a full-sized coach bus.
“Our field trip attendees always come away from the experiences with a wealth of new knowledge and greater appreciation for our natural resources, especially seeing Golden Eagles,” said Mehus. “Their excitement and the smiles on their faces say it all.”
Field trips begin at 12:30 p.m. at the Center in downtown Wabasha and return between 3:30 and 4:00 p.m. Guests are encouraged to dress for condition and bring their own binoculars and cameras, though communal spotting scopes and binoculars are available. Minimal walking is required,
Tickets are $50 for members and $60 for non-members. Seating is limited, and interested individuals are encouraged to reserve seats as soon as possible. A waiting list is available.
Private Eagle Habitat Tours are available year-round for groups of up to eight people on a per request basis. Pricing starts at $425 for members for a two-hour, personalized experience.
